let me give you everything you need. please.

I guess it’s a sign of growing up that all the love songs I listened through my late adolescence are starting to make sense.

This week : “Cold Cold Water” by Mirah.

There’s a bright one that caught your fancy eye, but it’s okay so long as you stay mine.  I’m so number one that it’s a shame, a shame, that you let other numbers in the game.

Reason #7,355,423,244 to Hate Law School

Ryan Gosling is in DC tonight on tour with his band Dead Man’s Bones.  Shirley Manson, lead singer of Garbage and one of my all-time faves, wrote a blog post earlier this week on how awesome their song “Pa Pa Power” is, and I have to say, I do agree with her.  Although Federal Courts take home midterm takes priority over eye candy, I am enjoying listening to them from my little work station in my little studio apartment.

Unrelated to Previous Post

If anyone can tell me where I can legally download in the US, and yes, I will pay for it, Girls Aloud’s “The Loving Kind”?  I’ve been looking for it for agesss.   And, yes, I’m in tears thinking about a whole years without any new Girls Aloud music.  Kills me inside after today’s news that one of their members (can’t keep ‘em straight, kill me) is taking time off to pursue acting.  Snore.

“I wish my life was a little less seedy, why am I always so greedy, wish I looked just like Cheryl Tweedy.  I know I never will, I know I never will.”  Lily Allen.

Ask and Ye Shall Receive.

I’m alright, don’t feel sorry ’cause it’s true – when I’m gone, you realize I’m the best thing to happen to you.  You always love me more miles away.  Miles Away.Madonna

And while that might be the most relevant breakup song of the moment, I give you, dear readers, my favorite breakup songs of all time.

1) Shit On The Radio.Nelly Furtado (The “I Just Realized How Much Better I Am Than You” Slow Song)

I remember the days when I was so eager to satisfy you and be less than I was to prove I could walk beside you.  And now that I’ve flown away, you curse the day I decided to stay true to myself.

2) Brand New Man.Letter Kills (The Happy Dance Song When You Know The Other Person Is Gonna Be Hurt by a New Person)

I can’t complain, I just walked away and took more steps towards being safe.  Baby, you just bought yourself a brand new man.

3) Don’t Bother.Shakira (The Sad Song About When They Date Someone Better Than You)

For you, I would give up all I own and move to a communist country, if you came with me of course.  And I’d file my nails so they don’t hurt you, lose those pounds, learn about futbol… if it made you stay.  But you won’t.  But you won’t.

4) I Could Say.Lily Allen (The Song About How Happy You Are Now)

Since you’ve gone, I’ve lost that chip on my shoulder.  Since you’ve gone, I feel like I’ve grown older.  Now you’re gone, it’s as if the whole wide world is my stage.  Now you’ve gone, it’s like I’ve been let out of my cage.

5) Happy Without You.Annie (The Song That Makes You Believe You Are Happy Because It Says That Line Over And Over Again)

And while we’re on the subject, here’s an extra gift:

“Love isn’t supposed to be easy.  Easy don’t make you grow, easy doesn’t make you learn, easy doesn’t make you think.  I thank God every day for giving me a man whom makes me think.”  Madonna on Guy Ritchie, 2004.

I’m Sorry

Dear Dannii Minogue,

I’m sorry for favoring your sister over you. “I Begin to Wonder” is excellent and has made my rainy day.

Xoxo,
A

Oh It’s Times Like These I Regret

Never having learned how to dance or carry a tune.

This video from Girls Aloud’s “The Loving Kind”.  It’s been out for over two months now, but I still can’t stop watching it.  I want their dresses and their shoes and all the fun they have.  (Note :  I found out that they were supposed to do the song “My Love is Better” with Annie but after hearing it, they declined to be associated with it.  It sounds amazing and I love Annie, so this made GA lose about ten points in my book.)

And of course, Lady Gaga who I will be seeing in eight days.  Britney Spears is currently in the District and I couldn’t bring myself to drop $40 and skip nightclass for that.  But Lady Gaga?  You bet I spent $20 and 10 minutes online crossing my fingers to get ticket before they sold out.  Here’s her latest video for “Love Game”.  While the Christina Aguilera comparison went on for awhile a few months back,  the Michael Jackson inspired dance moves take over at the end when she  even wears pants in the last thirty seconds!  But girl can only wear one complete article of clothing at a time so she only wears a suspenders and a bandeau top which is a bit reminiscent of past Gwen Stefanie with hair that also draws a comparison.  She even gets naked, save for some sparkles a la Britney Spears “Toxic”, in clips.  Anyways, it’s good fun.

Let’s not count how many times I said the word love in this post compared to my real life.  K, thanks?  “It always starts the same, with a boy and a girl and a hook and a game.”

Random Gripe

So I really haven’t said much about the Chris Brown – Rihanna – beatdown because, well, there’s enough angry feminists out there doing the dance between outrage that they’ve reconciled and empathy towards those who suffer battered women’s syndrome.  I really don’t have anything to add to that conversation since everyone and their mother has an opinion on that one.  But, I will say I am pissed since I can’t listen to Rihanna songs without getting angry!

“Hate that I Love You” – refers back to the battered women’s syndrome above.

“Breakin’ Dishes” – what she needs to do.

“Umbrella” – what she should have been carrying.  Men never attack a woman holding an umbrella.

“Shut Up and Drive” – what she should have told him when he started hitting her while he was in the driver’s seat.

Le sigh.

in the meantime, stay, let me watch you break it down.

So I don’t really listen to the radio as I don’t have a car and it’s wintertime and only weird people listen to radios indoors.  I only watch MTV for the shitty reality shows.  My friends think my music selection is hopeless.  So basically I’ve been left to my own resources when it comes to finding new music, and, unsurprisingly, I rarely find anything at all.

So I read about Lady Gaga on a few celebrity blogs.  And since most of these blogs are written by gay guys, I kinda wrote off their obsession with this artist who wears blonde wigs and bathing suits on stage.  But when boredom reaches a certain point, it is sometimes replaced with curiousity and a few youtubevideos/myspacesongs later, I’m regretting ever having avoiding it.  If David Bowie had sex with Britney Spears while listening to Daft Punk, she would be the product.  God, I wish I could be that cool.

More likely than not, you’ve heard “Just Dance” alredy (it is the number one song in America, although I’ve had the convenient excuse of not being there for the past two weeks) but here’s the video just in case.  I love it.  It makes me want to have a dirty, sweaty dance party so badly.  Has it really been out for eight months?  God, I live under a rock.

I also recommend “Starstruck”, the chorus of  “Paparazzi”, and the line “Love it when you call me Legs / In the morning, buy me eggs” in “Boys Boys Boys”.

Update #1: Not so sure how I feel about her inability to wear pants.  But I guess since she makes the majority of her own outfitis, I will forgive.

Update #2: Oh yes, three tickets to her sold out show on my desk.  I am pumped!

I Know Your Girlfriend Hates Me.

It’s back on the interwebs!

A few weeks ago I posted the new video for Annie’s “I Know Your Girlfriend Hates Me”. It was later removed by the legal team at YouTube but now it’s back for everyone to enjoy.

I’m regretting a lot of life choices this week. Because of this video, not becoming a pop star is one of them.
She looks like she’s having so much fun!
